Should I care? I hate to come across as "I know more than you do" but when I learn something that doesn't seem to be getting through to others when we are all able to access the same reference material, I feel that the kind, polite presentation is failing. In fact, as nice and professional as Dr. Drew is, and as much of a prick as Dr. Phil is (I know you don't agree with that sentiment), Dr. Phil is getting the ratings. He gets through using confrontation. It is not my job to get through, but who can I possibly help if I don't get through?Kevhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07801375613506119374noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6239580191461398432.post-82291561138407425452013-01-16T14:04:56.070-05:002013-01-16T14:04:56.070-05:00Its about freakin time man. The legendary authors of extraordinary literature of the past will always remain as the inspiration and teachers of authors today who aim for similar success but to be called an author of any genre or author in general is an admirable accomplishment. That title alone, whether one's book is self published, short, long, boring to some or inspiring to many is shared by the likes of Earnest Hemingway and Barrack Obama and today's advancments in publishing ability has allowed even the average "Joe" to achieve that.Eric Rileyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09459574737075186953noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6239580191461398432.post-76497510025844142132012-07-26T01:35:36.942-04:002012-07-26T01:35:36.942-04:00Wow, that's a lot of information. That, in a sense, is a partial equalizer; it gives the new, self-published writer a rise of sorts, but in general, the leg-work it took for an author pre-2000 compared to the required leg-work today to get published was a bare-footed Iditarod through publishing mine fields.Kevhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07801375613506119374noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6239580191461398432.post-36524092557870291002012-06-21T19:58:52.643-04:002012-06-21T19:58:52.643-04:00Yes, there are more "authors" now, thank...Yes, there are more "authors" now, thanks to indie publishing, e-books, etc., and most of them aren't that great. But, all authors have had to prove themselves when they first started out, although the competition wasn't so heavy many years ago. I'm finding today some of the most popular authors aren't getting the proper editing, even though they are published by well known publishers. The same criticism that is made of self-published authors can be made of traditionally published authors when this occurs.<br />One can read only so many books. The good writers, who can not only write, but tell a story, will rise to the top. I too had a runin with such a creature. I friended a man recommended to my by another friend. He reviewed books and I asked if he'd be willing to review mine. One day, a friend of his made a political comment that I disagreed with. Now I know no two people will agree on all things and politics is particularly prickly on that, but I don't mind a good debate. I honestly didn't expect the name calling and low cuts I got in return simply because I disagreed. I quickly unfriended the man, not expecting to get my review or ever hear from him again. I did indeed get the review and it was alright but I doubt he actually read the book. At least he didn't carry his political view over to his book reviews, or maybe he never connected me to that disagreement.Anna L.
